Churches to hold National Day service
Aug. 21, 2013
This year’s National Day Prayer Service by the Association of Churches Sarawak (ACS) will be held tomorrow (Aug 22) at 7.30pm at the Christian Ecumenical Worship Centre, Jalan Stampin. Themed “Proclaiming the year of the Lord’s favour”, it is hosted by the Roman Catholic Church. “The service will be filled with prayers and hymns in jubilation of God’s mighty and wondrous blessings to our state and country,” said ACS secretary-general Head Elder Ambrose Linang in a press release yesterday.
Among the service’s prayer points are to seek God’s grace, blessings and mercy for Malaysia’s continued peace and development and for its leaders as well as the people. The reflection will be delivered by the Archbishop of Kuching the Most Rev Datuk John Ha from the Roman Catholic Church, while scripture readings will be in English, Bahasa Malaysia, Iban, Bidayuh and Mandarin.
The event aims to foster the spirit of unity among Christians and to reflect how valuable a peaceful nation is for all Malaysians. The service will be preceded by the raising of the Jalur Gemilang and state flag by ministers in attendance. All Christians are invited to attend and pray for Malaysia. All Christian elected representatives and Christian heads of department have also been invited. ACS branches throughout the state will hold services at divisional level.
