Report - Kashmiri Migrants at Bandra Terminal

Greetings from The Mumbai Migrant’s Commission

I wish to inform you that there are Kashmiri migrants who have set up a temporary camp near the Bandra Terminal from the past one month. They have left the Kashmir border due to various problems especially the extreme weather conditions. During my visit to the place, they requested for me for some essential items to meet their daily needs, especially dry ration.

Under the guidance and direction of His Eminence Oswald Cardinal Gracias and the support of Bishop Allwyn D’Silva, we distributed 700 kg rice, 400 kg Dal, 140 liters cooking oil, 450 kg wheat flour, 180 kg sugar. This morning, food grains were distributed to 161 families comprising of around 900+ people staying in the camp. This provision may last them for a week.

Our special thanks to the Unit head Fr. Cosmos Ekka of the Urban Community Development Center (UCDC) for conducting a camp survey and supervising the entire operation. We have made UCDC as our base for the said operation.

Our sincere gratitude to the noble gesture and generosity extended by the Center for Social Action, Fr. Joe Gonsalves. Fr. Felix D’Souza, Parish Priest of St. Anthony’s Church, Vakola; Fr. Abel Fernandes, Parish Priest of Our Lady of Health, Versova and Fr. Lancy Pinto, Parish Priest of St. Michael’s Church, Mahim for their timely response and assistance.

This migrant group will remain in the said camp for another one and a half month before they head back home. If you wish to provide assistance in the form dry ration or clothes for adults and children, please contact me directly on Mob. # 9967450026.
