Archdiocese of Bombay Offers Prayers and Deepest Condolences Following Ahmedabad Air Tragedy

Mumbai: The Archdiocese of Bombay, led by His Grace Archbishop John Rodrigues, is deeply saddened at the news  of the tragic plane crash that occurred this afternoon in Ahmedabad, claiming the lives of more than 200 people.

According to reports, Air India Flight AI 130, a Boeing 787-8 Dreamliner bound for London's Gatwick Airport with 242 souls on board, crashed shortly after take-off from Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel International Airport, Ahmedabad. The aircraft tragically came down in a densely populated residential area, impacting a medical college hostel during lunch hour.

In response to this immense tragedy, Archbishop John expressed the solidarity and grief of the entire Catholic community in the Archdiocese of  Bombay:

"Our hearts are  deeply saddened by the news of the unfortunate air crash in Ahmedabad. The loss of numerous lives is overwhelming. We offer our sincere and heartfelt condolences to the families, friends, and loved ones of all those who perished in this disaster."

"We fervently pray for the eternal rest of the departed souls. May the merciful Lord grant them peace and welcome them into His loving embrace. We also lift in prayer all those injured, praying for their swift and complete recovery, and for God's strength and comfort to surround all who are suffering physically and emotionally."

"Our thoughts and prayers are also with the first responders, police, medical personnel, rescue workers, and volunteers who are courageously working amidst the harrowing scene. We pray for their safety as they undertake the difficult tasks of recovery and support."

The Archdiocese stands in solidarity with the people of Ahmedabad and the whole nation in this moment of grief and mourning.
