The Archdiocese of Bombay, through its Archdiocesan Office for Environment (AOE), organized a special celebration for the Season of Creation on Saturday, 21st September 2024, at the Don Bosco International School Hall. This global period of prayer and action, marked by Christians worldwide, serves as a time to reflect on our responsibility to care for and protect God’s creation. The celebration was honoured by the gracious presence of the Papal Nuncio to India and Nepal, Archbishop Leopoldo Girelli, and His Eminence Oswald Cardinal Gracias, Archbishop of Bombay.
This gathering highlighted the fruits of the Archdiocese’s ten-year-long ecological ministry while underscoring the pressing need for greater efforts in response to the deepening ecological crisis. Despite the challenges, we remain hopeful. The theme for this year’s Season of Creation, "To Hope and Act with Creation," calls on the faithful to respond concretely to the cry of the earth, the poor, and the young.
A major highlight of the program was Eco Canticles, a unique celebration of creation through drama, music, and dance, creatively illustrating the beauty of the natural world and the urgent need to preserve it.
In line with this ongoing observance of the Season of Creation, under the guidance of His Eminence Oswald Cardinal Gracias, the Archdiocese of Bombay organizied a tree plantation drive. On this occasion, saplings were distributed at Holy Name School Hall as a symbolic act of care for the environment. This initiative also acknowledges the commendable role played by our Honourable Prime Minister, Shri Narendra Modi, in addressing climate change and promoting climate justice. It is especially meaningful that this drive coincides with the Prime Minister’s 74th birthday on 17th September.
Through this small but significant gesture, the Archdiocese of Bombay hopes to inspire further action, in keeping with this year’s theme, encouraging all to actively participate in the protection and restoration of creation.
